5 Ways Members Can Make the Most of NetGalley

Here on We Are Bookish, I’ve talked about ways to improve your Feedback Ratio, write critical book reviews, spruce up your Profile, and more! Now that we’ve covered the best ways to share your insights with publishers and authors, I’d like to focus on ways members can make the most of their NetGalley experience. These tips are to help you stay organized and informed about the tools NetGalley offers that will make your job as a book advocate easier than ever!

Explore our Knowledge Base
The NetGalley Knowledge Base is packed with answers to all of your most pressing questions—including how to improve your Profile, review tips, and help setting up your preferred reading device. It’s a great first stop when you have a question about NetGalley, but it’s also a place where you can contact the NetGalley support team directly to ask a question about your member type, how to best use the NetGalley site and app, and more.

Subscribe to the weekly NetGalley Checklist email
Every week, NetGalley sends an email to let members know if they have books ready to be downloaded and the number of books on their Shelf that are ready for Feedback. It’s a helpful reminder, and gives you the chance to prioritize what you read and review as you plan your upcoming weeks. To subscribe, go to the Account Security tab in your NetGalley Profile and edit the Subscriptions section.

Make note of your favorite publishers
The number of books available for request on NetGalley can be overwhelming. An easy way to narrow down the books you’re browsing through is to “favorite” publishers you frequently request books from. To do this, visit a publisher’s page (which can be found through Browse Publishers or by clicking their name while on a book’s page). Then click the Add to Favorite button. Next time you’re on the Find Titles page, look for the Favorite Publishers link in the sidebar—click it to see a list of books curated from the publishers you’ve selected!

Check approval preferences
On publisher pages, press View Approval Preferences to learn more about what a particular publisher is looking for when approving requests. Since publishers utilize NetGalley in different ways, these preferences can give you insight into how they want to connect with specific member types and what information they want to see in member Profiles. If you frequently interact with a specific publisher, make sure to read through their preferences to ensure you become a valuable contact for them.
