Six Titles I’m Downloading from the NetGalley App

Did you hear the news? NetGalley members can now read books and audiobooks in the brand new NetGalley Shelf app! The NetGalley Shelf app is our first mobile app and it makes it easier than ever for NetGalley members to start reading or listening to books they’ve been approved to access. To celebrate, here’s a look at three books and three audiobooks that I’ll be downloading on the app and reading ASAP!

Books

The Searcher by Tana French

I don’t even need to read descriptions of Tana French’s books to know I want to request them. Her books are atmospheric, addicting, and offer readers a deep psychological look into the mind of the protagonist. French’s The Likeness is one of my all-time favorites and I’m eagerly looking forward to reading her upcoming mystery. The Searcher takes place in a remote village in Ireland, where retired detective Cal Hooper is hoping to settle down. But when a local boy goes missing, Cal can’t resist stepping in to help.

The Midnight Bargain by C. L. Polk

C. L. Polk’s latest sounds like a beautiful blend of fantasy and romance—two of my favorite things. Beatrice Clayborn’s family is relying on her to make a good match that will help clear their debut, while she secretly longs to remain untethered so she can continue to practice magic and go from sorceress to Magus. But a kiss with Ianthe Lavan changes everything, and as the two grow closer, Beatrice is left torn, for even a marriage built on love would require her to give up her dream.

Rent a Boyfriend by Gloria Chao

How fantastic is this cover? I’d say I requested this based on that alone, but the plot sounds equally amazing and I can’t wait to dive in! Chloe Wang is desperate to stop her matchmaking parents from pushing her to accept a proposal from someone she doesn’t want, and in an effort to get them off of her back she hires Drew Chan to be her fake boyfriend. Drew’s been trained by the team at Rent for Your ’Rents and he knows exactly how to impress Chloe’s parents. What he doesn’t know is how to stop himself from falling for Chloe.

Audiobooks

Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner, narrated by Danielle Macdonald

A weekend in Cape Cod? Sign me up! Jennifer Weiner’s latest takes readers to a mansion during a wedding weekend where plus-size Instagram influencer Daphne has been asked to step in as maid of honor for her former best friend. Since I’ll be keeping a safe social distance from the beach this summer, I cannot wait to dive into this audiobook about friendship, growing up and apart, and social media. Plus I loved Danielle Macdonald in Netflix’s Dumplin’ and think she’ll make a fantastic audiobook narrator!

His & Hers by Alice Feeney, narrated by Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine

I’ve been in the mood for a good mystery lately and love audiobooks with multiple narrators, so couldn’t resist downloading His & Hers. Split into two points of view, the book centers around two characters connected to a murder in Blackdown. BBC lunchtime news presenter Anna Andrews was friends with the victim when she lived in the town as a child. Meanwhile, DCI Jack Harper is hoping to avoid revealing exactly how he knew the woman who died.

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones, narrated by Shaun Taylor-Corbett

There has been so much buzz about this book and audio seems like a fantastic choice for listening to a creepy, atmospheric horror story. Years ago on the Blackfeet Reservation, Lewis and his friends ignored the hunting boundaries and shot an elk on land reserved for elders. Now, he’s haunted by the creature and the bodies left in its wake. Stephen Graham Jones is known as the Jordan Peele of horror literature and I’m ready to get spooked!
